What a public sauna costs in Tampere

Entry to a public sauna in Tampere is €5–€25 for an adult. This page lists every one of them, what the ticket actually gets you, and the things that catch visitors out — swimsuits, towels and cash.

How this works

A public sauna is not a spa and not a gym. You pay at the door, you change, you shower, you sit in the sauna, you cool off outside or in the lake, and you repeat that for as long as you like. Nobody times you and nobody books you a slot.

Almost all of these places are run by swimming clubs, neighbourhood associations or small family businesses. That is why the prices are low and why the payment arrangements are sometimes old-fashioned.

Prices below are adult single tickets, taken from each sauna's own record and updated as we verify them. They can change with the season.

Day trips from Tampere

These 14 are outside the city but close enough to reach and back in an evening. Several are among the best saunas in the region, so they are worth the trip — but you cannot walk to them from the centre.

Temporarily closed

These saunas are shut at the moment, so they are not in the tables above and we show no price for them. They stay on this page rather than disappearing from it: a sauna missing from a price list looks like a sauna that never existed, and someone who has heard of it deserves to be told why they cannot go.

What the ticket includes — and what it doesn't

The entry fee covers the sauna itself and the changing room. Beyond that it varies, and the gap between an €5 sauna and an €16 one is mostly in this list.

A towel is almost never included
Bring your own. Only a few places rent them, and where rental exists the price is shown in the table above. A small towel to sit on is also expected in some saunas — the Finnish habit is to sit on something, not directly on the bench.
Showers are normal, but not universal
Most of these saunas have showers and changing rooms. A couple of the smallest ones do not; where we have confirmed that, it is marked in the table. If a sauna has no showers, you rinse off in the lake.
Swimwear rules differ and matter
Most public saunas in Tampere are mixed and swimwear is required — bring swimwear or you will not get in. A few traditional saunas run separate times for men and women, and in those you sit naked, which is normal and expected. The table says which is which.
The lake and the ice hole
Swimming in the lake is part of the ticket everywhere it is possible. In winter, an ice hole is kept open at many of these saunas. Whether it is included in the entry price or charged separately is marked per sauna where we have confirmed it.
Soap and shampoo
Not provided. Bring your own if you want to actually wash rather than just rinse.

How to pay

This is the thing that catches out visitors most often. Some of these saunas do not take cards. They are small operations, several are staffed by volunteers, and a card terminal is not something every one of them has.

We are confirming the payment methods sauna by sauna. Until a sauna has been checked, the table says so rather than guessing — do not read a blank as "cards accepted".

The safe approach: bring cash. €20 in notes covers an entry and a drink almost anywhere on this page. If you would rather not, check the sauna's own website before you travel — the link is in the table.

What you are actually paying for

For €12 you get an evening, not an hour. The ticket is for the session, not for a fixed slot, so you can arrive when it opens and stay until it closes if you want to. Most people do three or four rounds of fifteen minutes with a swim or a sit outside in between, which comes to two or three hours.

You can go back into the sauna as many times as you like on the same ticket. Nobody counts. What you cannot usually do is leave the site and come back later on the same payment.

Paying more mostly buys facilities rather than better heat. The saunas at the top of the list have a restaurant, a bar or a terrace attached. The ones at the bottom are a stove, a bench, a changing room and a lake — which is what most people came to Finland for, and is why the cheap ones are often the ones locals recommend.

If you are staying a while and expect to go more than a few times, ask about a multi-visit card at the door. Where we have the price it is in the table; where we do not, the sauna can tell you.

About the gaps in this table

Where a price is not published or we have not confirmed it, this page says so instead of estimating. We would rather show you a gap than a number that turns out to be wrong at the door. The gaps are being filled sauna by sauna, starting with the ones inside Tampere.

Prices are adult single tickets in euros. Each row carries the date it was last checked; saunas set their own prices and most often change them at the turn of the season.
